Smith served in a number of posts in this church during and after Mrs. Eddy's lifetime, and wrote articles about her for encyclopedias and reference works. Each chapter in this work was originally an essay published to portray a particular aspect or period in Mrs. Eddy's life. They were later collected into this one volume.
